Californians heating up Fairbanks

Forward Austin Block is fourth in the NAHL in scoring with 31 points in 21 games, and Fairbanks sits in first place in the league's West Division.

Forward Austin Block of Northridge sits fourth in the NAHL in scoring with 31 points in 21 games, and he played a big role in Fairbanks sweeping Kenai River last week and building a 10-point lead in the West Division.

But Block has received some help from two fellow Southern Californians, forward Michael Juola (Lake Forest), who has put up 18 points since joining the Ice Dogs 15 games ago, and forward Mark Pustin (Northridge). Juola also has a plus-11 rating after starting the season with Tri-City of the USHL.

Block and Juola each had a goal and two assists as Fairbanks topped Kenai River, 5-2. Pustin had a goal and assist, and Block added an assist in a 3-0 Fairbanks win the next night. In the third game of the series, Block and Juola each had a goal and an assist, and Pustin scored a goal to give Fairbanks a 5-4 win and the sweep.

Forward Soren Jonzzen (Mountain View) had a four-point week for St. Louis. He had an assist in a 4-0 victory over Marquette. He struck for a power-play goal, and recently acquired defenseman Shawn Jameson (Long Beach) added an assist in a 5-3 loss to Motor City. Jameson set up Jonzzen for the first of his two goals in an 8-5 victory over Traverse City. … Emerson Etem (Long Beach) had a goal and an assist, Matt Nieto added two assists, including one on Etem’s goal, and Chase Balisy (Fullerton) chipped in a helper as the USNTDP’s U17 team beat Motor City, 7-2. … Defenseman Randy Swank (Nuevo) and forward Travis Stevens (Montclair) each had a goal and an assist as Topeka beat Wichita Falls, 5-4. Forward Kyle Delaurell (Mission Viejo) had two assists for Wichita Falls. Delaurell had a goal, two assists and a shootout goal in a 4-3 Wichita Falls win the next night. … Forward Junior Cadiz (Los Angeles) had a goal and an assist in Wenatchee’s 3-0 victory over Alaska. He also picked up an assist in a 6-5 loss to Alaska. … Forward Jeff Harris (Simi Valley) picked up an assist in Bismarck’s 6-1 triumph vs. Albert Lea.

Left wing Tyler Maxwell (Manhattan Beach) scored Everett’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Tri-City. He added an assist in a 3-0 victory over Portland. Teammate Shane Harper had a hand in all three Silvertips goals vs. Kootenay, scoring twice and setting up another tally. … Defenseman Jonathon Blum (Rancho Santa Margarita) had a goal, an assist and went plus-3 in a 5-1 victory at Chilliwack. He had the same stat line in a 5-3 loss at Tri-City. … Center CJ Stretch (Irvine) had an assist in Kamloops’ 8-5 win over Regina, and he set up the Blazers’ tying and winning goals in a 4-2 decision over Spokane. Mitch Wahl (Seal Beach) had an assist for the Chiefs. … Center Jonathan Parker (Solana Beach) scored in Seattle’s 4-1 victory vs. Kootenay. … Centers Colin Reddin (Corona del Mar) and Jonathan Milhouse (Yorba Linda) each had an assist in Portland’s 5-3 loss to Seattle. … Kelowna captain Colin Long (Santa Ana) picked up an assist in a 3-0 victory over Chilliwack. … Defenseman Cameron Cepek set up Prince George’s goal in a 7-1 loss to Regina. Goaltender Nick Hopper (Culver City) made 30 saves in Tri-City’s 5-4 win over Omaha. The Lancers got two assists from forward Dennis Brown (Cypress) and one from defenseman Joe Marciano (Alta Loma). Matt White (Whittier) scored what proved to be the winning goal and added two assists in Omaha’s 6-4 victory over Des Moines. Dakota Eveland (Anaheim) had an assist for the Lancers. White and Brown each had an assist in a 3-2 victory over Sioux City, which got a goal from forward Donnie Hallmark (Ontario). … Forward Matt Leitner (Los Alamitos) picked up an assist in Fargo’s 4-3 win over Sioux Falls. Forward Luke Greiner (Newport Beach) had an assist for the Stampede. Leitner set up Fargo’s lone goal vs. Sioux City, which got two assists from forward Donnie Hallmark (Ontario). . … Forward Brandon Richardson (San Clemente) and defenseman Lorren Barron (Glendora) each had a goal in Indiana’s 6-4 loss at Green Bay. Richardson set up a goal in a 3-2 win over Chicago. … Defenseman Max Nicastro (Thousand Oaks) and forward Brett Beebe (Redondo Beach) each had an assist in Chicago’s 5-1 triumph over Des Moines.
