Moving week for pro alumni

Alumni Report for the week of Nov. 10

The ranks of Californians in the American Hockey League grew this past week for a variety of reasons.

The Atlanta Thrashers returned wing Brett Sterling (Pasadena) to the Chicago Wolves, where he helped them win the Calder Cup in June.

Sterling wasted little time making his presence felt in Chicago. In his second game after being sent there, Sterling scored the tying goal in Chicago’s 3-2 shootout victory over Manchester with 32 seconds to play. Manchester assistant captain Gabe Gauthier (Buena Park) assisted on both Monarchs goals. Sterling was the game’s second star and Gauthier its third.

Defenseman Ray Macias (Long Beach) earned a call-up to Lake Erie after his sparkling start for Johnstown of the ECHL. Macias had a plus-1 rating in Lake Erie’s 6-4 victory over Hamilton.

And forward Matt Ford (West Hills) signed a Pro Tryout Contract with the Hartford Wolfpack after racking up nine points, including six goals, in five games with Charlotte of the ECHL.

Ryan Murphy (Van Nuys) had an assist on Lowell’s only goal and was plus-1 in a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia. … Landon Wilson (Los Angeles) had a goal and assist, and defenseman Garrett Stafford (Los Angeles) had an assist and a plus-3 rating in Grand Rapids’ 5-1 victory over Lake Erie. … Bobby Ryan (Huntington Beach) had a goal and assist and defenseman Brian Salcido (Hermosa Beach) added an assist and was plus-1 in Iowa’s 6-2 victory over Quad City.

Islanders right wing Richard Park (Torrance) had two goals and an assist, including a game-winning goal against the Rangers, a three-game point streak and a plus-1 rating in each of four games New York played last week.

Around ECHL

Ontario center Tim Kraus (Garden Grove) had a three-game point streak in a series at Utah, starting with a goal and assist in a 3-2 loss, a goal in a 3-2 shootout loss and an assist in Saturday’s 6-5 victory. Kraus is third on the Reign in scoring with eight points. … Defenseman Zach Tarkir (Fresno) had an assist in South Carolina’s 3-0 victory over Charlotte and was plus-2 in a 3-2 win two nights later.

NCAA men

Freshman defenseman Corbin McPherson (Folsom) assisted on a third period goal in Colgate’s 2-1 overtime loss at Princeton on Saturday. It was McPherson’s first collegiate point. … Freshman forward Brett Hextall (Manhattan Beach) scored the first goal (and point) of his collegiate career in North Dakota’s 3-1 victory over then-No. 1 Colorado College on Friday. Hextall, the son of Los Angeles Kings assistant general manager and former NHL goaltender Ron Hextall, added a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 7-4 loss. Andreas Vlassopoulos (El Segundo) had an assist for the Tigers in the second game. … Freshman forward John Kemp (Arcadia) had two assists in Nebraska-Omaha’s 5-2 victory over Western Michigan. … Senior forward Brandon Marino (Riverside) scored the winning goal in overtime to lift Bemidji State over Alabama-Huntsville, 2-1. … Freshman Josh Rabbani (Woodland Hills) had an assist in RPI’s 5-2 loss to Dartmouth. … Denver junior Rhett Rakhshani had a goal and an assist in the Pioneers’ 5-1 triumph over Minnesota Duluth. … Brian Volpei (Burbank) had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Lasch (Lake Forest) added two assists in St. Cloud State’s 4-1 victory over Robert Morris on Friday. She scored the Friars’ first two goals in a 5-2 triumph the next night. … Freshman forward Paula Romanchuk (San Jose) had an assist in Princeton’s 6-3 victory over Cornell, and she scored the Tigers’ lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Colgate the next night. . … Cornell sophomore defenseman Amber Moore (Sunnyvale) scored a goal in a 2-2 tie with Quinnipiac. … Senior goaltender Brittany Martin (Torrance) got the victory in Harvard’s 5-0 victory over Union. … Sophomore Kristi Kehoe (Bakersfield) scored a goal and set up the winning goal in Northeastern’s 4-1 victory over 1. Teammate Alyssa Wohlfeiler, a sophomore forward from Saugus, added an assist.

Kamloops center CJ Stretch (Irvine) has been named the Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Year after compiling nine points (one goal and eight assists) as the Blazers went 2-1-0-1 in four games this past week. That included a three-assist game at Portland that helped Stretch move into 11th place in the league in scoring with 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) in 23 games. … Center Mitch Wahl (Seal Beach) scored a goal in Spokane’s 2-0 victory over Red Deer. He added another in regulation and a second in the shootout during a 4-3 victory against Tri-City. … Everett forward Tyler Maxwell (Manhattan Beach) had two goals and assist in a 4-3 loss to Prince Albert. Maxwell was the game’s second star. Teammate Shane Harper (Valencia) had an assist in Everett’s 4-1 victory over Regina. … Right Wing Parker Stanfield (Orange County) scored a goal in Prince George’s 5-2 loss to Vancouver and he assisted on the lone goal in the Cougars’ 6-1 loss to Kamloops. … Goaltender Todd Mathews (Covina) stopped 18 of 22 shots to gain the win as Moose Jaw edged Prince Albert, 5-4. … Defenseman Jonathon Blum had a goal and an assist as Vancouver blanked Prince George, 5-0. He added two more assists in a 5-2 victory the next night. … Center Jon Parker (Solana Beach) scored what proved to be the winning goal in Seattle’s 5-2 victory over Red Deer. … Center Colin Reddin had a goal in Portland’s 6-2 loss to Red Deer, and he tallied a goal and an assist in a 7-5 triumph over Kamloops.

The four Californians on the U.S. Under-17 team all scored at the past weekend’s Four Nations Cup in Switzerland. Chase Balisy (Fullerton) and Matt Nieto (Long Beach) finished tied for 2nd in scoring in the tournament with four points in three games. Each had two goals and two assists. Emerson Etem (Long Beach) had three points, including two goals, and Shane Sooth (Canyon Country) had a goal and an assist. Team USA went 2-1 in the competition. … Forward Kyle Delaurell (Mission Viejo) had three assists for Wichita Falls in a three-game series against Wenatchee.
