Ducks deal rights to prospect for draft pick

ANAHEIM – The Anaheim Ducks acquired a sixth-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the rights to goaltender Mattias Modig. The sixth-round pick originally belonged to the Montreal Canadiens.

Modig, 23, appeared in 34 contests with Lulea HF of the Swedish Elite League in 2009-10, recording a 2.49 goals-against average (GAA) and .899 save percentage (SV%).

Selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Modig appeared in a career-high 40 contests with Lulea in 2008-09, finishing third among league goaltenders in GAA (2.25). His four shutouts that season also tied for the league lead. In 121 career Swedish Elite League contests, the Lulea, Sweden native has compiled a 2.53 GAA and eight shutouts.
